Step 1 | Register

Complete the form at the bottom of this page or call us toll-free at 866-949-9519 to get started. Once we receive your request, an account manager will e-mail you a document containing all of the relevant information regarding your surgery, as well as a detailed explanation of our process and our network of doctors and hospitals. After you have had time to review this document, we will contact you for a consultation.

Step 2 | Initial discussion

Once your registration is complete, your account manager will call or e-mail you for a consultation. We will discuss the details of your surgery, as well as whether or not medical travel is right for you. Your representative will answer any questions you may have. We will also explain in detail what you should expect from the process, as well as a general timetable of events.

Step 3 | Receive a price estimate

During our initial discussion, a representative will provide you with a rough price estimate for your procedure. This number is only an approximation - your official estimate will depend on the hospital you choose as well as your personal medical condition. We will be able to provide you with a more detailed quotation once we have received your medical information and submitted it to the hospital of your choice for a professional assessment. We are a service-oriented medical tourism agency that wants to provide you with an accurate price quote as quickly as possible.

Step 4 | Evaluate doctors and hospitals

After your initial consultation, you should begin evaluating the information we have given you. When selecting the surgeon and facility where your procedure will be performed, the ultimate decision will be in your hands. We will provide you with a substantial amount of information so that you can make an informed decision on your own, but we do not make any medical diagnosis or recommendations.

All of the hospitals in our network have been accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI). We encourage you to perform your own due diligence on all of the options, and discuss them with your primary care provider.

Step 5 | Detailed health questionnaire

We will provide you with a detailed questionnaire that will ask for specific information - including but not limited to x-rays, allergies, medical history and any chronic medical conditions. We will securely submit your information to the doctors and hospitals you have selected, so that they can determine whether or not you are a candidate for your requested procedure and the use of our services.

Step 6 | Hospital's assessment and price quote

Once your doctor has received your medical information, you will receive an assessment regarding whether or not you are a candidate for surgery. The hospital will then send you an official price estimate, so that you can make a more informed decision.

Step 7 | Conversation with your surgeon

Depending upon your needs and comfort level, we will arrange an e-mail, webcam, or phone consultation directly with the doctor you've chosen. This way, your doctor can directly address any questions or concerns you may have. Every hospital we work with has different protocols regarding consultations, so this may vary depending on the hospital and doctor you've selected.

Step 8 | Schedule your surgery, flight and hotel

After you've made your decision to proceed, we will work with you to determine the best time for your surgery. Once we've confirmed your selected doctor's availability, we will assist you in booking your air travel. We can provide you with a number of options for flights and hotels, but if you have frequent flyer miles or can find a better deal, we encourage you to do so.

Step 9 | Prepare for departure

Once your arrangements have been finalized, we will help you prepare for departure, and provide you with any information you need prior to your trip. Unlike some medical travel destinations, Taiwan does not require Americans to get an entry visa in advance, so this time-consuming process can be avoided.

Step 10 | Airport pickup

Once you arrive, your Formosa Medical Travel representative will be at the airport waiting for you, and will take you directly to your hospital or hotel. All transportation will have been arranged in advance.

Step 11 | Meet your doctor and receive evaluation

Prior to your surgery, you will have an opportunity to meet with your doctor face-to-face, and you will be given a full explanation of the procedure. The day before your surgery, any necessary evaluations and tests will be conducted.

Step 12 | Surgery

Once you've approved of both the hospital and your medical team, we will move forward with your procedure. Following the procedure, you will remain in the hospital for a few days to recover under the care of your medical team. After this short period, you will be given full documentation of your treatment, along with an itemized bill when you leave the hospital.

Step 13 | Post-operation recuperation

Once your doctor approves of your condition after surgery, you will be released for recuperation. Our patients have the option of remaining in the VIP suites at the hospital for the duration of recovery. Alternatively, you may wish to spend your recovery time in a hotel - if this is the case, we will make all of the necessary arrangements. Recuperation time varies depending on procedure, and from patient to patient. After this period, you will be able to return home.

Step 14 | Doctor's approval for return travel

Once your doctor has verified that your post-operation rehabilitation is going well, you will be cleared for return travel, and we will take you to the airport for your trip back home.

Step 15 | Aftercare information

After you've returned home, you will be expected to continue the rehabilitation program recommended by your doctor (if necessary). Throughout this process we can provide any assistance and information you may need regarding your follow-up care. We will be available to put you in touch with your health care provider in Taiwan, if necessary. We are a medical tourism agency that cares!
